Others in the same company: Henry Matney, John Edwards, &John Flint. He was drafted in Daviess Co, Ind in Sept 1811. Servedfor 6 weeks, then received an Honorable Discharge.
Description: Occupation Farmer, about 5'8" tall, blue eyes, faircomplexion.

"Joseph Hobbs, Jr. elinsted in the War of 1812 on Sep 18, 1811 atVincenese, Indiana and served under Captain Andrew Wilkey and theCompany Commander was Col Luke Decker in the War with the Indians inthe Battle of Tipicanoe and served just 14 days and was honorabledischarged on or about November 18, 1811 at Vincenes Indiana.
In reviewing the Service Record of Joseph Hobbs, Jr., the Compilernotes that after serving in the Military Services for 14 days and onOctober 2, 1811 upon the advice of his Commanding Officer he, JosephHobbs, Jr. was told he could hire a substitute and at this pointReuben Alsop was hired to take Joseph Hobbs, Jr., place with theunderstanding that any service he, Reuben Alsop, did while in theMilitary Services that he, Joseph Hobbs, Jr., would receive fullcredit for such acts and on November 18, 1811 Reuben Alsop and orJoseph Hobbs, Jr., was honorably discharged from the Military Servicesof the War of 1812. For Joseph Hobbs, Jr., Military Services duringthis War, he received one third league of land in Bexar County, Texason 7-25-1834, but he did not put in a claim for this land for severalyears. On March 3, 1855 a law was passed which would allow MilitaryClaims."
My comment: In 1834, Bexar Co, Texas was part of Mexico.... How couldit be assigned as a reward by service in US Military?
[1262] Joseph and Anna Hobbs left Indiana in 1840 and arrived in ShelbyCounty, Texas in early 1841. They were on their way to claim land inBexar Co, Texas that was a bounty for his service in the War of 1812.
