William Preston stayed with his uncle Lewis Jones in Shelby County, Tx(as the family travelled from Indiana to Texas) to study to be aMethodist Minister. He is listed as staying and studying in the Lewis(Louis) Jones home in the 1850 Census of Shelby Co.
William Preston Hobbs was a member of the Luling Texas Circuit of theMethodist Episcopal Church
Rev Hobbs had a club foot. Family tradition says that he was killedwhen he recognized a horse that had been stolen and as he approachedthe horse, he was shot and killed. The ground was soft and muddy andhis tracks were recognized, and the body was found nearby. Theassailant was never caught.
